Playful Calculation = Design Creativity

“Play” is an essential component to any creative endeavor. Likewise, algorithmic thinking and calculation are core activities to any design professional. Design is a form of play, and play is a form of calculation. We need to broaden our understanding of “calculation” to see there are many ways to calculate that extend beyond STEM’s normal understanding of it. There are ways to calculate that encompass intuition and artistry which prove to be very useful in solving aesthetic design problems.
